Audiology Surveillance:

If you employ staff within a noisy working environment, you will understand the importance of hearing check. Not just a good idea, it is also a legal requirement under Regulation 5 of the Management of Health and Safety at work Regulations 1992 (MHSW Regs). At Healthscreen UK we provide a range of Noise related services to help you achieve a safer noise environment within your workplace.

Hand And Arm Vibration Assessments (HAV)

Hand-arm vibration (HAV) is vibration transmitted from a work process into workers’ hands and arms. It can be caused by operating hand-held power tools, hand-guided equipment, or by holding materials being processed by machines. 
Multiple studies have shown that regular and frequent exposure to HAV can lead to permanent adverse health effects, which are most likely to occur when contact with a vibrating tool or work process is a regular and significant part of a person’s job.

Pre-Employment Assessments

About 5 -10% of all new employees will have some medical condition so having a pre-employment medical assessment performed on prospective employees makes sense. It helps you identify health problems early, and protect those with conditions which may be affected at work such as epilepsy, diabetes, back and musculoskeletal problems, asthma etc.
You will also protect yourself as, under the disability discrimination provisions of the Equality Act (formerly DDA), it is required that employers are aware of an employee's disability and make reasonable adjustments to their working environment or other aspects of their job. Our pre-employment medical assessments are designed to give employers the information they need to ensure that prospective employees meet their full working potential.

Night workers medicals

The purpose of a Night Worker Health Assessment is to determine whether a worker is fit to undertake the night work to which he/she has been assigned. Also, it is to determine whether the work will have an effect on the employee's health.
Under the Working Time Regulations, employers must decide if they employ night workers.  If you do, then night workers must be offered a free health check before commencing work, and periodically (usually every year) thereafter. Night Time is defined as the period between 11.00pm and 6.00am and a Night Worker is defined as someone who regularly works at least 3 hours of daily working time during 11.00pm and 6.00am.

Drug & alcohol screening

Simply put under the current health and safety legislation you are responsible to ensure a safe place of work and safe systems of work for your staff. If you employ drivers for your business, your responsibilities extend far beyond the physical confines of your business as does your liability. If an accident occurs on the road and one of your employees fails a drugalyser test, there will be little defence for your business. Even if there isn't an accident if one of your drivers is stopped for a random test and fails. It means one of your trucks is off the road and perhaps impounded.
