Welcoming Our New Doctor of Occupational Health

We are very excited to welcome Dr Karen Nightingale to our team. To give her full title, Dr Karen Nightingale MB BAO ChB DFPH DipLSHTM PGDip MPH MFOM, is an experienced specialist in occupational health and medicine. 

Outstanding Experience

Dr Nightingale is a Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and a Diplomat of the Faculty of Public Health, having qualified from medical school in 1999.  She has a wide range of experience in providing occupational medicine advice to professionals/non-professionals within industry, the private sector, and the public sector. 

Her experience includes pre-placement screening, health surveillance, sickness absence management, work-related ill health, hand-arm vibration assessments (Tier 4), asbestos medicals, ill health retirement, liaison with Specialists/GPs, participation in research, participation in audit, undertaking executive medicals, chain of custody work, Lead Physician of a region, staff management tasks etc. 

Her Public Health background has provided her with a huge amount of valuable experience including working with communicable diseases, vaccinations, emergency and pandemic influenza planning, epidemiology, statistics, critiquing journal articles, appraising the evidence-base, evaluating services etc. 

She is exceptionally interested in the interaction of health and work, rather than purely focusing on sickness absence.  In addition, she has experience in dealing with fitness for work issues and has firsthand awareness and personal experience of conflicts that can arise within the consultation.

Her career in Occupational Medicine postings have included working with various private companies throughout the UK, including Peugeot, Yell, Emcor, Logistics, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Aggregates, Chemicals, Food handlers, Bakeries, Creamery, Brewery, Banks, Industry, Pharmaceutical, Logistics, Retail, Electronics etc., as well as working within the public sector including Police, Ambulance, Local Authorities, Schools, University, Fire & Rescue Services, NHS Trusts and Mental Health Trusts
