New App Underway for those with Noise-Induced Hearing Loss!

Healthscreen UK is in partnership with the online retailer, Hearing Aid Accessories, and we are pleased to announce that they are launching their very own app, which will be live on all app stores come Deaf Awareness Week!

It has been estimated by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that 2 million people in the UK are exposed to unacceptable noise levels at work, as they continue to emphasise just how important wearing hearing protection is in noisy workplaces. For many, however, it is too late, as HSE believes that 140,000 of these individuals are already living with work-related hearing loss.

Noise-induced hearing loss occurs when the delicate structures inside the inner ear become permanently damaged due to exposure to loud noise. This is a condition that can affect people of all ages and can be temporary or permanent, but unlike other types of hearing loss, noise-induced (NIHL) can be prevented.

How might the Hearing Aid Accessories app help prevent noise-induced hearing loss?

  • Ear Protection

Hearing loss can occur through exposure to noises louder than 85db for longer than 8 hours, however, the louder the noise, the faster the hearing loss will occur. This means that individuals exposed to these noise levels for prolonged periods of time are at serious risk of hearing damage unless they take necessary precautions.

The Hearing Aid Accessories app will offer a wide range of ear protection and CENS products for those who require hearing protection. This includes standard, reusable, and custom-made ear plugs designed for recreational as well as occupational purposes such as shooting, listening to music, sporting, swimming, and sleeping.

  • Tinnitus Products

Hearing loss is strongly associated with tinnitus (experiencing ringing or buzzing sounds coming from the inner ear). In four studies conducted by HSE, the prevalence of tinnitus in workers exposed to noise at work was significantly greater than in workers not exposed to noise.

The Hearing Aid Accessories app will offer a huge variety of products all designed to ease the discomfort of tinnitus. This includes sleep therapy systems and speakers, sound pillows and white noise machines.

How might the Hearing Aid Accessories help someone who already has hearing loss?

  • Hearing Aid Essentials

Deafness and hearing loss is widespread and can be found in every country and region. In the UK alone, there are 11 million people currently living with a hearing loss which works out roughly as 1 in every 6 people. However, when it comes to the rest of the world, it has been estimated by the World Health Organisation that 1.5 billion people currently have hearing loss worldwide, with this expected to increase to 2.5 billion by 2030.

The app will sell an extensive range of hearing aid essentials such as wax filters, domes, tubing, receivers, and cleaning products which all prove vital when it comes to hearing aid maintenance.

  • Assistive Listening Devices

For those who have a hearing loss, it is likely that hearing aids will be lifechanging when it comes to daily activities and social interactions, however, there may be situations where hearing aids are still not be enough. This is where assistive listening devices come in.

An assistive listening device is part of a system used to improve hearing ability for people in a variety of situations where they are unable to distinguish speech in noisy environments. They include amplified telephones, hearing aid compatible phones and smartphones, television compatible devices, and alerting devices – which can all be bought via the Hearing Aid Accessories app!

The Hearing Aid Accessories app will be live on all app stores come Deaf Awareness Week (2nd – 8th May) so don’t forget to pre-register for early access and 10% off. Visit https://www.hearingaidaccessories.co.uk/appreg/ now!
